Old School Marketing Techniques That Still Work by Sam Qam
Roll up! Roll up!
In the modern age, the internet, television and things like viral marketing are where many marketing companies focus their attention. There is a common feeling that moving forwards with technology and staying ahead of the latest innovative marketing technique is the best way to engage with customers and increase sales. E.g. mobile, apps.
Unfortunately though, this is not the case. There are so many different ways to make an impact on customers including many old techniques that are often overlooked in favour of the new ways technology provides. People get too excited by new techniques often leading them to forget about ways that may actually be more effective. Vanity must in some way play apart.
So throw down you desire to look cool and embrace old techniques that are proven to work:
Postcard
Everyone likes getting postcards. Plus, they are cheap to produce, are really attention grabbing with the right image, and are crucially, very easy to read. With so much marketing material coming at people via email and adverts and junk mail, a nice postcard can be the thing needed to make people take notice.
Get the image right and deliver a very simple and easy to read message with a clear explanation of what they need to do next in order to maybe take advantage of an offer or whatever.
Email
Having just described email as a modern technology, in actual fact it is pretty much old school. Many people have left it behind as a medium for advertising, but if it is done well, it can be incredibly effective.
First you need to make sure that the person receiving the email knows it is coming by allowing them to opt in somehow. That way they will recognise your email address when it comes up. Also, you need to include a strong subject line that will make them keen to open it, and you need to make sure the email is simple and clear so it is very easy for them to do what you would like them to do.
Banners
Banners are a highly under rated form of advertising. Not only are they huge and, when put in the right place, incredibly eye catching, they can also be moved around to help you find the most effective place for it. Be it at the side of a road, on a roundabout or in a shopping centre. Banner stands for example allow you to set up a banner anywhere you want so that you can take your message to wherever you like.
So why not take a step back from the techno frontiers and explore advertising techniques that work.
